Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County and the eighth-largest in the Bay Area. Concord features a bustling downtown area with many shops and restaurants on the streets surrounding Todos Santos Plaza. The Plaza hosts regular events, including a year-round farmers market, concerts, and outdoor movie screenings.
Concord enjoys 260 days of sunshine per year. The surrounding area offers lots of hiking and biking trails and sprawling open space preserves so residents can make the most of the consistently good weather. Concord has two BART stations and highway access. When traffic is light, the 29-mile journey west to San Francisco can be completed in as little as 30 minutes.

Dining options also include around 40 Mexican eateries, which are included on the Concord Taco Trail. The Concord Beer Trail takes in a great selection of craft beer breweries and taprooms. Standouts include The Hop Grenade and E.J. Phair Brewing Company next to Todos Santos Plaza, Concord Tap House at the El Monte Shopping Center, and Epidemic Ales to the city’s north.
On the west side of Concord, several shopping centers offer many more retailers and restaurants on either side of I-680. Willows Shopping Center’s extensive dining options include theatrical Japanese hibachi grilling at Benihana, elevated burgers and drinks at Eureka!, and eclectic global comfort food at Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar. The Veranda is an upscale open-air shopping mall featuring an outdoor space for concerts plus retailers such as Banana Republic, Barnes & Noble, Cost Plus World Market, Sephora, TJ Maxx, and Whole Foods Market 365.
Restaurants at The Veranda include EMC Seafood & Raw Bar and Southern Italian eatery Doppio Zero. On the west side of I-680, Sunvalley Shopping Center features more than 160 businesses anchored by JCPenney, Macy’s, and Sears department stores. Plate and Vine at the Concord Hilton serves sophisticated Californian farm-to-table cuisine alongside Napa and Sonoma Valley wines.
Concord offers a huge variety of places to enjoy and explore. Major attractions include the Six Flags Hurricane Harbor waterpark and Pixieland Amusement Park. Markham Nature Park and Arboretum offers gorgeous landscaping and plants in a relaxing space in Concord’s southwest corner. The Iron Horse Trail begins in Concord and runs for more than 40 miles through numerous nearby cities and scenic areas. Golfers are well-served with two public courses. Diablo Creek Golf Course and Buchanan Fields Golf Course each offer 18 holes of challenging play and beautiful scenery.
Recreation destinations just outside the city include sprawling the 6,117-acre Briones Regional Park, the 1,060-acre gateway to Mount Diablo at Diablo Foothills, the 6,000-acre Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, and the world-class mountain biking destination Lime Ridge Open Space.
The 12,500-seat Concord Pavilion is one of the East Bay’s premier outdoor performance venues featuring regular concerts from some of the biggest touring acts. August’s Concord Jazz Festival has been an annual highlight since 1969.
Concord is served by the Mt. Diablo Unified School District and several charter and academy districts.
